The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time #2) by Robert Jordan

Summary (from the publisher): The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of...Now the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages. And it is stolen.

Review: "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass leaving memories that become legend, then fade to myth, and are long forgot when that Age comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Dhoom. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning." (1).

This novel continues the great saga introduced in the first installment in this series and follows Rand Al'Thor, Egwene, Mat, Perrin, and Nynaeve in the great upheaveal of their lives after being uprooted from their childhood homes. Each must follow his own path. Rand, Mat, and Perrin are caught up in the search for the Horn of Valere. And Egween and Nynaeve pursue training to become Aes Sedei and wield the one power. But despite their chosen journeys, the wheel turns as the wheel wills, and each is pushed along to their destinies. Along the way, they encounter great threats to their safety and also the safety of the world as they know.

This is a great fantasy saga with a richly developed world full of magic and mythical characters and evil forces. At nearly 700 pages, it did drag at times for me, but I did enjoy it and continuing the characters' stories.
