Out on a Limb (Out #1) by Hannah Bonham-Young

Summary (from the publisher): Winnifred "Win" McNulty has always been wildly independent. Not one to be coddled for her limb difference, Win has spent most of her life trying to prove that she can do it all on her own. And, with some minor adjustments, she's done just fine.

That is until she has a one-night stand with the incredibly charming Bo, a perfect stranger. And that one night changes everything.

While Bo is surprisingly elated to step up to the plate, Win finds herself unsure of whether she can handle this new challenge on her own or if she’ll need a helping hand.

Together, Win and Bo decide to get to know one another as friends and nothing more. But, as they both should know by now, life rarely goes according to plan.

Review: Winnifred, known as Win, meets a handsome stranger named Bo at a Halloween party. They bond over the fact that they're both dressed as pirates and then discover they both have limb differences: Win was born with one hand not fully developed and Bo had his leg removed. They have an incredible one-night stand. While Win never intends to see Bo again, when she realizes she is pregnant some weeks later, she reaches out to Bo. When they decide to tackle this surprise challenge together as friends, little do they know that unexpected plans have led to them something more.

This was such a cute romance!! An unexpected delight. I know not everyone enjoys an accidental pregnancy trope, but this one was not just a third act pregnancy thrown in to seal the deal, but truly the crux of the whole love story and a detail you know early on in the novel. While this is at heart pretty much the best-case scenario for a one-night stand with unexpected consequences, it was truly heartwarming.

I think what I really appreciated about this couple is that I genuinely liked both of them! They are both good people and go into the relationship with good intentions and treat each other well. This book is proof that you don't need drama, third act breakups, insane plot scenarios like miscommunication to have an enjoyable and thrilling love story. This is a healthy couple with great communication and respect for each other who are going to be great parents, and I am here for it!!

I do think this book helped me realize that while I typically don't mind explicit content in books, I prefer it to be as affirmation of an emotional connection between the characters. This book pretty much opens with a very explicit casual hookup scene. While this greatly furthers the rest of the plot of the book, I was thrown off by the way the book just opens with guns blazing and kind of got the ick from the casual aspect of it. This is a me thing! But I will also say the book ended up having three total very spicy scenes and they were very extended and explicit so if this is not your jam, you may want to either avoid the book or skip those sections. But overall, an adorable love story that I enjoyed far more than I even anticipated.
