The Right Move (Windy City #2) by Liz Tomforde
She’s a distraction, that’s what she is.
I’m the newest Captain of the Devils, Chicago’s NBA team, and the last thing I needed this year was for Indy Ivers, my sister’s best friend, to move into my apartment. She’s messy, emotional, and way too tempting.
But when the team’s General Manager vocalizes his blatant disapproval of my promotion to Captain, referring to me as an unapproachable lone wolf with no work-life balance, I can’t think of a better way to convince him otherwise than pretending to date my outgoing roommate.
The only problem? Faking it feels far too natural.
Having a fake girlfriend wasn’t supposed to be messy but having Indy under my roof and in my bed is complicated, especially when she wants all the romantic parts of life that I could never give her.
INDY
I never imagined I’d be living with my best friend’s brother, NBA superstar Ryan Shay. Even more unbelievable? He needs me to act as his loving girlfriend who’s suddenly changed him into a friendly and approachable guy.
Because, well…he’s not. He’s controlling of his space and untrusting of others.
Our arrangement isn’t one-sided, though. I’m in a wedding coming up, one where every one of my childhood friends, including my ex-boyfriend, will be in attendance, and there’s no better date than my ex’s celebrity hero.
Blurred lines make it almost impossible to separate real from fake. Falling for my roommate was never part of the deal, especially when Ryan is quick to remind me that he doesn’t believe in love.
I’m a romantic and can’t help fantasizing that he’ll change, but soon enough, I find myself questioning if sharing a roof with my best friend’s brother was the right move after all.
Review: Book two in the Windy City series and the reader gets to see Indy's story! She's fresh off of a six-year relationship that ended badly, and her best friend arranges for her to room with her twin brother - who just happens to be star of Chicago's NBA team, Ryan Shay. Ryan is a neat freak who has a hard time trusting others and is less than thrilled to have a messy girl who loves to splash color all over his neutral apartment. But what was initially a rooming only situation slowly becomes a fake dating relationship that slowly becomes something more.
I love this series so much and this book was no exception. Ryan and Indy both have hang ups from bad relationships in their pasts. They are slow to trust and nervous about moving on. But they have undeniable chemistry. I love that the story is bigger than just their relationship - they deal with family issues, dating hangups, their goals and visions for their futures both in their careers and outside of them play a huge role. Ryan is an athlete in his prime and while I am not a traditional sports romance reader, I am here for it! It was also fun getting to still see Zander and Stevie in this book since their story was covered in book one.
These books are just sexy! I love the slow burn, yearning build up in each and every one of these. I stayed up way too late reading these. As always with Tomforde's characters, I love that they are open, willing to work on their hangups and acknowledge their flaws and mistakes and are incredibly sex positive and accepting. Another great book in this series!
I will say I didn't like some of the big life choices Ryan makes without discussing it with Indy first. It was the stuff of fairy tales to have this rich, sexy athlete spoiling her and making her dreams come true but I do think major life decisions like homes such be discussed and decided upon together.
