Josh & Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Summary (from the publisher): Just friends. Just friends. JUST FRIENDS. If they repeat it enough, maybe it’ll be true . . .

Hazel knows she’s a lot to take – and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and taste for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter and tendency to say exactly the wrong thing will. Their loss. Not everyone can handle a Hazel.

Josh has known Hazel since college. From the first night they met – when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes – to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double-blind dates means there’s nothing between them . . . right?

Review: Josh and Hazel had the funniest meet cute! He was her TA; she had her wisdom teeth out. She emailed him while high on drugs! Years later, when they meet again, they definitely remember each other. While they few each other as just friends, they decide to go out a series of blind double dates. But along the way, the spend more and time together and begin to realize maybe they want to be more than friends.

I typically don't love friends to lovers, but this one was so funny and felt fresh in its approach. I loved how quirky and fun Hazel is. I love her entourage of assorted pets, funny mishaps, and playful relationship with her mom. I love that Josh is Korean and accepts Hazel as she is, and also that Hazel just happens to be best friends with his sister. I also loved that he catches feelings first, is less experienced than her, and patiently waits on her to figure it out.

Let me just say that the ending of this includes a trope that a lot of readers do not like at all (but that I happen to like a lot). HOWEVER, even for the haters, I thought it was so well done and handled very well. And it also revealed a lot about the characters and their relationship. And it does not consume much of the book.

This was great on audio with dual narration. However, I did not love the male narrator's voice, especially the voice he used when narrator female dialogue. It was not the best. This was also very short so it was a fun, fast read!
