Into the Fading Twilight (Starlight Grove #2) by Catherine Cowles
After a year in captivity, Nova Monroe is back in Starlight Grove—but she’s not the same woman who vanished. She lives on the edge, chases adrenaline, and refuses to be caged again. Cliff diving. Mountain biking. Anything to feel alive and outrun the memories clawing at her.
But the single dad with shadows of his own won’t let her face it alone. Especially when she finds herself needing a place to stay.
Kol Archer has made it his mission to protect her. As a Forest Service investigator, he’s no stranger to rugged terrain or battling for control. But nothing prepared him for Nova—her fire, her fight, the way she makes him feel something he thought was lost.
The closer they get, the more dangerous things become. Someone doesn’t want Nova to move on. And Kol is determined to stop them—no matter the cost.
Because for the first time in forever, Nova’s not just surviving. She’s learning how to live, how to trust, and reminding Kol he can, too. But as darkness looms, the truth could destroy them both…

Into the Fading Twilight is a single dad, roommates-to-lovers, small-town romance about a woman starting over and a man who will do anything to keep her safe. This book can be read as a stand-alone.
Review: Thank you to author Catherine Cowles for an ARC of this book out on July 7th!
This book picks up right where book one leaves off! Nova Monroe has survived over a year in captivity but now she must try to find a way to move through the trauma she endured. Kol Archer, the man who found her, has made it a mission to protect her.
This was great romantic suspense. I loved following Nova and Kol as they grapple with their past traumas while falling for each other. But I was equally invested in the killer storyline. This had some really tense moments and scenes towards the end and I was very concerned for the characters' safety!!
I really love all of the Archer brothers, and it was fun to get to learn more about Kol in this book. He's a single dad, he's fiercely protective, and he's got his own pain from his past. I loved that the words he said to Nova when he first found her after her ordeal become Nova's mantra that calm her down when she gets overwhelmed. Kol is nervous to put himself out there, concerned because of all Nova's been through, and because dating her is problematic for his work as a Forest Service investigator but I loved seeing him unable to resist Nova anyway.
I do have to add that, while these can technically be read as standalones, I would really recommend reading the first book before this one. While each book follows a different brother's love story, you miss significant backstory and family history if you skip book one. It was also fun getting to see Dex and Brae from book one show up a lot in this book. Reading the first two has me so excited to get to read the other brothers' story in the future.
I have read two books by this author now and I devoured both of them at rapid pace, but I still think the suspense element is the real winning point. The love stories feel a bit a tad rushed and gushy but because you've got killers on the loose, it's easier to let it go. In other words, if this was solely a romance, I'm not sure I'd be giving it as high a rating. In particular, I can't stand how each couple has super over the top nicknames for each other that they use even in front of other people. Their nicknames were Boss and Phoenix. That being said I am fully seated for book three.
