My Forever Girl (Blue Sky Bay #1) by Laura Pavlov
Gracie Reynolds and I have been best friends since we were kids.
She’s smart, kind, funny, beautiful—and one of the best parts of my life.
When Gracie walks into a room, people notice.
I always notice.
But when she moved across the world with a guy I despised, it felt like I’d lost a piece of myself.
I missed her in ways I still can’t explain.
Now she’s back— and she’s crashing at my place for a couple of months while she figures things out.
She’s single and ready for a fresh start.
I’ve always had her back, and that hasn’t changed.
What has changed?
The way that she looks at me.
The way I can’t stop looking at her.
So, when Gracie makes me a once in a lifetime proposition--obviously, I'm all in.
But this isn't your average gray area--it's a full-on, sweat-inducing, five chili pepper detour we never meant to take.
Gracie has big dreams though, and I’d never be the guy to hold her back.
Even if all I want…is to be the reason that she stays.
Review: This is a smalltown, friends-to-lovers romance that follows childhood best friends Gracie and Cutler. Gracie recently moved to Paris with her boyfriend, but when it falls apart, Cutler goes to Paris to bring her home and offers her a place to live with him until she starts a new job in NYC. After her recent boyfriend insulted her bedroom skills, Gracie feels self-conscious and asks Cutler for spicy lessons - just until she moves again.
First, let me just say that I thought the cover of this book was absolutely stunning. I love smalltown romances and love that this two have years of history and their families are friends. I also like that Cutler is supportive of Gracie's dreams and ambitions.
This is the first book by this author I've read, and I had no clue until I was reading that this that the two main characters have appeared in other series by the author. While this can be read as a standalone, it was obvious that there was backstory I wasn't aware of, in the sense that random references to complex family histories would be made and at one point, Cutler's band of uncles, who he has literally never mentioned before this scene, descend in mass to him talk out a problem.
I was really disappointed in both the writing and plot of this. Essentially, the whole plot is two besties are horny for each other. There is essentially no tension in this because they are both into each other and available from the start of the book. There is some inflated drama because Cutler is anxious over his past, Gracie just got out of a serious relationship yada yada but truly at heart the final page was evident from page one. And why does he even fly to Paris to help her come home? She didn't even have anything to move it sounded like. And why wouldn't she have just lived with her parents? It would have been more believable if she hadn't gone along with them, but she was very close to them.
The sexy lessons plotline were also a bit ick. And she says she wants him to teach her and then the scene just ended and he had no response?? And they don't discuss it again for a while. It didn't make sense or seem believable. Also I don't like players who sleep around until the "Right One" suddenly appears and they're a changed man, but that's just my personal preference.
This was a fast, stress-free read with a happily ever after. I did like the dog.
