Life's Too Short (The Friend Zone #3) by Abby Jimenez
But after her half-sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her infant daughter, she is housebound, on mommy duty for the foreseeable future, and feeling totally out of her element.
The last person she expects to show up offering help is the unbelievably hot lawyer who lives next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him. But as they get closer, Vanessa realizes that her carefree ways and his need for a structured plan could never be compatible for the long term. Then again, she should know better than anyone that life’s too short to fear taking the biggest risk of all. . .
Review: Vanessa is a famous YouTuber who has traveled the globe and shared about her journeys with her millions of followers, determined to live her best life in case she falls victim to the fatal genetic condition that already claimed the lives of her mother and older sister. But when she is suddenly stuck at home fostering her half-sister's baby, she feels totally out of her element. She never expects the hot lawyer that lives in the apartment next door, Adrian Copeland, to come to her rescue one night when the baby won't stop crying. And she never expects the two to be so drawn to one another.
I loved this book. Vanessa and Adrian have great chemistry and banter from day one and their back stories and character details felt full and unique. In addition to losing her mom and older sister and fearing succumbing to the same disease, the rest of Vanessa's family situation is complicated. I love that she is serving as a foster mom for her niece. While this not a role that she (or later Adrian) signed up for, this really thrive in their roles as surrogate parents for baby Grace, and the baby not only initially brings them together but is one of the many things that help them bond.
Typically, friends to lovers is not my favorite romance trope. But of course, Abby Jimenez still made me love this story! It felt believable and natural that while Adrian and Vanessa feel very pulled to each other, there were clear reasons why they held back and remained friends for as long as they did. I love their story and how true and natural their connection felt. The absolute cinematic grant gesture nature of the conclusion really did me in!! I don't even care if others find it believable or not - I was here for it. This book was the perfect blend of comedy and serious moments and was probably my favorite of the three in this series.
I am so sad this book is over! Now that I have read this book, I have officially read all of Abby Jimenez's currently published works. This was such a delightful read and was beautifully done on audio with dual narration for the alternating chapters that jump between Vanessa and Adrian's perspectives. Abby's books just are true perfection for me on audio. Between the great writing, the great banter, the tender unfolding of the story, and the great narration, I can't stop listening! I finished this while on a walk and walked two extra miles just because I was so caught up in the conclusion of this story and couldn't help myself but finish it! Already anxiously awaiting her next publication date.
