And they’ve never been very good at staying silent.
In this sexy, action-packed sequel to the #1 bestseller House of Earth and Blood, Sarah J. Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode―and the people who will do anything to save it.
Review: Bryce and Hunt have saved Crescent City and have the rare opportunity to slow down to enjoy life. But their peace won't last for long. Along with their friends, they are quickly pulled into a dark underworld of rebels fighting against the Asteri's power.
Sarah J. Maas is truly trying to do the most in this series. There continues to be every type of conceivable imaginary creature and demon in here. We've got fae, humans, wolves, mermaids, demons, and much more. I do like that this book spent a considerable amount of time on plot building and setting the scene for the epic fight the characters are in to save the world from this evil that has been living beneath them all along. I do like the sense of found family in this diverse group and the way they support each other and band together despite what they're supposed to do, according to their species or creed.
I liked this. I enjoyed it! I really did. And yet, I do have some complaints:
- Did readers really have to wait over a thousand pages for Bryce and Hunt to get it on?? And then it was just this weird rage blind scene on Hunt's part?
- Does everyone have to be wildly attracted to and flirtatious with Bryce?
- How busy was Danika? A so-called party girl, she sure was busy behind her best friend's back. At every turn in both books, another great reveal turns out to be a secret of Danika's.
- I was a little taken aback at the speed of the relationship between Ruhn and Agent Daybreak. There was no buildup but just seemed to go straight from a professional relationship to something more with them. I liked the intrigue and impossibility of the relationship but something about it just didn't feel well fleshed out.
- Much was made about Bryce's marriageability and her father's plans for her and how men could make decisions for her and then this was all discarded suddenly.
- I love the relationship between Bryce and her brother that was firmly established already in book one. BUT I have to say it doesn't feel entirely believable to me Ruhn, a victim of abuse and cruelty his whole life but be so unfailingly supportive and loving to his sister and experience no jealousy whatsoever towards her.
