Happy Birthday, Samantha!: A Springtime Story (American Girl: Samantha #4) by Valerie Tripp

Summary (from the publisher): When Samantha's tenth birthday party is spoiled by the boy next door, Aunt Cornelia and her young twin sisters try to ease Samantha's disappointment by inviting her and Grandmary to visit them in New York City.

Review: This was such a fun installment in Samantha's series! Samantha and her grandmother are invited to New York City to visit Uncle Gard, Aunt Cornelia, and Cornelia's young twin sisters. Cornelia, Agnes, and Agatha go on a mad dash through the streets of New York City when Cornelia's dog gets loose. And they learn something new about Cornelia.

I loved this! The illustrations of New York City at the turn of the century were so fun, as was seeing Samantha get to see parts of the city. I also love learning that Cornelia is a suffragette and fighting for women's right to vote. This sparked a great discussion with my kids while we were reading this together. It was fun to see Samantha gaining two new family members of sorts in Cornelia's younger twin sisters. This book also felt a little more exciting and action packed than others in Samantha's series.

I love Cornelia's character so much. She and Gard seem to have such a loving, supportive, and fun marriage. She lives in New York! She has a new dog! And she is championing the cause of women's voting rights. She is glamorous and beautiful and I'm so happy for Samantha to have such a great role model in her.
